On Tuesday, December 16, as part of the follow-up to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, chaired the presidential council meeting dedicated to preparations for the Games. This was an opportunity for the executive branch to reaffirm its support for the organizing committee.
Just ten months to go before the start of the first ever Olympic event to be held in Africa. And before officially opening the 4th edition of the Youth Olympic Games, to be held in Dakar, Saly, and Diamniadio from October 31 to November 13, 2026, the YOG Organizing Committee (YOGOC) was invited to the presidential palace on Tuesday, December 16, at the initiative of His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The objectives of this meeting were “to take stock of progress, strengthen coordination, and provide the necessary guidance to accelerate preparations,” said the Head of State at the end of the discussions.
Close collaboration
In short, the YOGOC and the executive branch will collaborate more closely to “ensure management, coordination, and monitoring that guarantee rapid decision-making,” said President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
To achieve this, the palace has indicated that weekly reports on the implementation of decisions will now be submitted.
“With ten months to go before the Games, I have set clear priorities and specific deadlines for an organization that lives up to the trust placed in Senegal,” the President concluded.
