Dakar in Games: Urban Day

The second edition of the Dakar En Jeux festival is well and truly launched. The festival is filled with smiles, joy, laughter, but above all YOUTH!

Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly are looking to surpass the success of last year's edition. Each day is dedicated to specific sports and activities, such as Urban Day. What is Urban Day? Let's find out!

First, it is important to have a general idea of ​​what Dakar En Jeux is all about. This multi-day event aims to engage young people in sport and raise awareness of the Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

The festival kicked off with an opening ceremony at the Monument de la Renaissance, while Urban Day was part of the second day of the Dakar En Jeux programme. The event took place at the Place des Cultures Urbaines in Grand-Yoff, Dakar.

Skateboarders, roller skaters and BMX riders were invited to test the course and put on a show for the crowd. Breakdancers impressed spectators with spectacular moves, and children from different schools in Dakar were invited to the Grand-Yoff Municipal Stadium to learn how to play field hockey.

The event ended with a concert by Senegalese rapper Dip Doundou Guiss, also known as "the local boy."

The Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games were originally scheduled to take place in 2022, but due to COVID they were postponed to 2026.
