Dakar en Jeux 2025: a look back at the international futsal tournament

The fourth edition of the Dakar en Jeux Festival, held annually since 2022, took place from Monday 4 to Sunday 9 November 2025. A major highlight of the event was an international futsal tournament bringing together eight teams from Africa, Europe and South America.

The stands of Dakar Arena are still echoing with excitement. Over four days, from 6 to 9 November, they came alive with the chants and dances of enthusiastic supporters who turned out in large numbers to witness the international futsal competition organised as part of the Dakar en Jeux 2025 Festival. 

Eight futsal teams from Africa, Europe and South America competed in the tournament. In the men’s competition, Brazil, Morocco, Portugal and Senegal were represented. The women’s tournament featured teams from Guinea, Senegal (Teams A and B) and Namibia. 

Outstanding performances by the Lionesses 

The competition got underway on Thursday 6 November. The opening day was marked by two emphatic victories for Senegal’s women’s Teams A and B, with convincing scorelines: a 7–2 win against Guinea and a 9–2 victory over Namibia.

 This successful start was confirmed in the following matches. Senegal A’s Lionesses secured the gold medal by finishing top of the podium after claiming a second victory over Namibia on the final day of the competition, with a resounding final score of 14–2.

Seleção crowned champions

In the men’s competition, the Brazilian and Portuguese teams proved relentless in overpowering their opponents, beginning with the Senegalese side. Outclassed in each of their matches, the Lions endured a difficult campaign, suffering defeats of 14–1 against Brazil, 5–1 against Portugal and 11–7 against Morocco. 

As a result, Brazil, Portugal and Morocco contested the three podium positions. Ultimately, it was the Seleção who emerged victorious. On Sunday 9 November, Brazil overcame Portugal in the final with a score of 3–1.
